Liverpool Architectural Society - The New Normal

Project Details

Project Type: Competition

Timeline: January 2021 - February 2021

Position: 2nd Place

Role: Architectural Designer

For the ‘The New Normal..?’ design competition, participants are asked to submit a proposal for a temporary pavilion, located within the city of Liverpool. Participants are encouraged to design a pavilion that reflects the opportunities, changes, or challenges we may encounter in a post Covid world. At its core, each submission should present a unique perspective of the change in societal needs after the Coronavirus pandemic, and equally should resolve and/or respond to this through tectonic formulations.

For our proposal we created a pavilion that would allow the communication with those who couldn’t be in the same space. While in COVID, we became used to talking to others via video conferencing tools, however without depth and the option to communicate with gestures and in person, we lost the nessacary benefits and understanding that came from human connection. Using the Mann Island basin, we would use the pavillion to project onto water spray and create a holographic communication tool in order to allow for a more fruitful conversation between disperate parties. This would also allow for the more inclusive communcation between communities from all across the world with the Liverpool area.
